Maderista is a new project from The Madeira Collection & Francisco Albuquerque, winemaker at Blandy's. The wine is aged an average 10 yrs in solera method - a common practice of aging liquids like wine, sherry, and spirits through fractional blending using a tiered system of barrels where older liquids are blended with newer ones to ensure consistency and complexity.
The Maderista Reserva is a light version of the fortified wine category, with great acidity and medium body using the Tinta Negra Mole grape. The mellow palate provides flavors of orange zest & peel, black cherry, vanilla bean, gingerbread, dried figs and caramelized nuts & butterscotch finish. Maderista is a fresh and above all pure Madeira, focusing on elegance and fruitiness rather than oxidation.
