Elisa Carta is the force behind The Sirene - producing naturally made, traditional, Italian spirits. Her delicate and precise liqueurs, bitters and aperitif wines are a reflection of her heritage - reworking old family recipes using both local botanicals and those traditionally sourced from Asia. Elisa grew up foraging and growing herbs with her grandmother, an amateur botanist. She named her products ‘Sirene' after the Baia delle Sirene (Bay of the Sirens) on Lake Garda which is also one of her chief botanical sources. No chemicals or artificial coloring are ever used in Elisa’s products and most are vegan.
The name Amarulivo is a combination of the words ‘amaro’ and ‘ulivo’ or olive. The amaro was inspired by the abundant olive trees that grow around Lake Garda and their leaves serve as the primary bittering agent. For the base wine, Elsa uses the local Trebbiano di Lugano (genetically identical to Verdicchio), which adds a brightness and freshness - making this traditional digestivo attractive as an aperitivo as well. Notes of peach, tangerine, tea, cardamom, and a hint of lemon balm to round out the palate.
