Mostly Aglianico w/ Barbera, Piedirosso, and Sangiovese
In the 1990’s Pasquale Mitrano and Elisabetta Iuorio abandoned their architect careers to reclaim an old family plot of land and soon began cultivating 5.5 hectares of citrus, olive, fig trees, and grapes. The estate is organically farmed and incorporates some biodynamic practices. In the early years they sold most of their grapes to local wineries, but releases their first estate bottle wine in 2007. Their line is inspired by traditional wines with simple, natural vinification methods. The wines are easy to drink, thirst-quenching and carefree.
The ‘Tondo’ bottling is a blend of multiple vintages of estate grown Aglianico, Barbera, Sangiovese and Piedirosso from the Paestum IGP in Campania. Vinified and aged in stainless steel and partly in used 500-liter oak barrels. Notes of plums, Amarena cherries, violets, and spicy cloves, black pepper, and nutmeg with a hint of forest floor. Delicate tannins, and good freshness - try this with a porcini mushroom risotto with lots of shallot and fresh parsley. A good time to use that saffron you don't know what to do with.
