Nestled in the elevated hills of Mendocino and Sonoma Counties, Idlewild’s mission is to find the sides of Italy’s Piedmont varietals that are intriguing, delicious, and haunting. Founder and winemaker, Sam Bilbro, grew up learning about wine from his dad. As an adult, Sam was especially struck by the wines of Piedmont, Italy. Idlewild now focuses solely on creating single varietal and vineyard wines of typicity and balance; and on crafting Piedmontese blends full of depth for the everyday dinner table.
They emphasize the vineyard followed by minimalist winemaking techniques - sourcing fruit from just three vineyards. An honest and sustainable approach is fundamental in making wines of purity.
On the nose, orange peel, grapefruit, alpine herbs, peach, wildflowers, and sea spray. The palate gives each of the four varieties a moment to shine - with the Nebbiolo and Grignolino giving a crunchy minerality, the Dolcetto adding a delicate softness, and the Barbera infusing a bright acidity.
