Over forty years ago, Phil Coturri merged the ethos of his “back-to-the-land” hippie community with his life in wine growing, when he converted Dos Limones Vineyard to organic viticulture. He quickly discovered that, beyond the health and environmental benefits, organic farming and enlivened soils allowed a true sense of place to emerge in the wines. Winery Sixteen 600 is inspired by the opportunity to connect Phil Coturri’s legacy in this industry with his vision of wine from the vineyard to the wineglass. Above all, Sixteen 600 embraces the essential opportunity wine provides: the opportunity to have fun, make friends, build community, and celebrate the moment.
Grapes for the Enrico Valentine red are sourced exclusively from organically and regeneratively farmed vineyards managed by the Coturri family. The inaugural 2023 vintage comes from four prime sites each playing a key role in Sonoma Valley’s viticultural history. The 2023 growing season in Sonoma Valley was a wild ride, but once the growing season got going, vines were vigorous and the fruit was strong. The wine is blended and then aged for 16 months in French oak.
A vibrant bouquet of ripe blackberry, dark cherry, and fresh strawberry, accented by secondary notes of dark chocolate and cracked black pepper. On the palate, the dominant Zinfandel and Grenache provide a juicy, fruit-forward intensity that is balanced by robust tannins from Petite Sirah.
