Dalkeith Winery is owned by Jackson Family Vineyards - yep, the same ones who produce Kendall Jackson! The company over the past several years has leaned into purchasing existing spaces and new, to fund a new generation of winemakers, with a mind toward biodiversity and sustainability. Truly using their riches for good, they’ve put in the work to have great relationships not only with their vintners but also their neighbors.
Founding winemaker, Graham Weerts, a South African native got his start helping with harvests, moved into the cellar and wound up working on vintages in Bordeaux and Napa Valley. He reunited with his former assistant winemaker, Mario Damo and Adi Badenhorst from Badenhorst Wines to open Dalkeith, focusing on 50 year old bush vines with expressive and unique fruit.
100% Chenin Blanc, grown with little to no pesticides, herbicides. Harvested with three different passes, each crop was vinified separately to be blended later. Fermentation took place in several containers, including large neutral oak and ceramic. Once blended, the wine rested for eleven months in 90% neutral oak, 10% new. The nose presents candied orchard fruit, herb and soft flowers with a palate of pear nectar, peach skins, juicy stonefruit and vibrant lime on the end.
