The Serrano family have been pioneers of organic and biodynamic farming in Rioja and Navarra since 1998. They practice dry farming (relying entirely on moisture stored in the soil from rainfall) and over 70 hectares of their vines have been certified biodynamic. Tucked between the Calahorra and Andosilla range, their vineyards enjoy a balance of continental climate and Mediterranean influence, allowing the Serrano’s to employ polyculture - the agricultural practice of growing multiple different plants simultaneously in the same area. Traditional biodynamic farming, along with regenerative and certified organic practices ensure the next generations will be able to sustain the farm, no matter the environmental challenges. Winemaker Ruth de Andrés, the newest generation of the Serrano family has taken the helm and is infusing a youthful dynamic into the farm and bringing the winery to the forefront of exciting biodynamic Rioja winemaking.
The name Binario is meant to highlight the many non-binary people working in the winery. Consider this bottle a message of acceptance and inclusion. A lighthearted unoaked Rioja that can handle a slight chill! Lots of dark cherry & berry fruit, with hints of rustic wood and tobacco notes. A lush palate with a nice crisp finish.
