Founded in 1983 by Rob Griffin and Deborah Barnard, Barnard Griffin Winery began as a spare-time venture with a single truckload of borrowed grapes and a rented cellar. It has since grown into one of Washington’s largest and most enduring family-owned wineries, with its main campus and production facility located on Tulip Lane in Richland. Rob Griffin holds the distinction of being the longest-tenured winemaker in the state, now working alongside his daughter, Megan Hughes, who represents the second generation of winemaking for the estate. The Richland campus is a multifaceted destination, featuring a tasting room, the Kitchen at Barnard Griffin restaurant, and db Studio, a fused-glass art gallery and studio run by Deborah.
The winery’s production is anchored by the Caroway Vineyard, their 15-acre estate located on the Wahluke Slope just fifty feet above the Columbia River, which provides roughly half of their total fruit. To maintain quality and variety, they supplement their estate fruit with grapes sourced from several other prominent Columbia Valley sites, including the Vista, Crawford, and Arete vineyards.
