Arianna Occhipinti has been a trailblazer in Sicilian natural winemaking, 21 years old when she released her first vintage in 2004, she has since gained a cult following in the biodynamic movement. Arianna started becoming involved with wine at the young age of 16 in her uncle Giusto Occhipinti's cellar – one of the proprietors of Vittoria's most famous winery, COS.
Her SP68 wines are named for the main road nearby, which also happens to be the most ancient wine route in existence. The Bianxo is 60% Zibibbo/40% Albanello. From certified-organic vines, averaging 20+ years old and planted on chalky, sandy soils. The bunches are harvested by hand, destemmed and co-fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in concrete tanks. Maceration lasts approximately two weeks. The wine is aged in concrete tanks for 6 months and bottled unfiltered. Savory, wild herbs and wet concrete give way to crushed nectarines. This is soothingly round and supple with a spicy tinge of ginger and tart orchard fruits and a cascade of salty minerals.
