Agricole Ficomontanino (little fig mountain) sits in the ancient town of Chiusi, right where the borders of Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria meet. Originally just used for olive oil production and horse breeding, Maria's father discovered the terraced hillsides on the property and set to restore the site for grape growing. Maria Sole Gianelli has been running the family estate for the last 10 years, producing a small collection of beautifully presented, genuinely expressive and nicely different wines in the lesser known region of Tuscany.
Bulgarelli is Maria's workhouse wine, thoughtfully name dafter her grandfather's prized stallion. The grapes are hand picked, destemmed and fermented in cement, with a short skin maceration in cement and steel vats for 8 days. After vinification, the wine is aged for at least 10 months in cement and 8 months in steel tanks.
Both fresh and deep, both spicy and politely earthy with rich red fruits.
