For nearly 125 years the Brochard roots have been firmly planted in Sancerre. The family’s spirit is reflected in their wines, and the start of their story in Chavignol. In 1900 Aimée and Hubert Brochard ran a farm where they reared goats, cultivated the fields, and, of course, tended to their vines, entirely by hand. From generation to generation they have passed on their historic chapter in Sancerre with unwavering in its dedication to expressing the richness and diversity of the region’s famed terroirs Today they continue the legacy with 89 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, and one of the few producers in Sancerre harvesting the majority of their grapes by hand. In the cellar, precision meets tradition. Each parcel is vinified separately in small vats, and the aging process is carefully tailored to highlight the unique character of each wine. Whether in stainless steel, concrete, vintage barrels, or amphorae—introduced in 2023 to encourage gentle micro-oxygenation—the goal remains the same: to let the land speak.
The Les Carisannes bottling is from a small vineyard ran entirely by 3 of Hubert Brochard’s great-grandaughters, Caroline, Isabelle, and Anne-Sophie. Classic aromas and flavors of citrus, fresh herbs, and minerals. Peach and stone fruit jump from the glass accented by some citrus oils, wet slate and tulsi basil. This Vin de Pays du Val de Loire is lighter in weight and texture than Sancerre, but its fresh and fruity character make it a delicious wine for warm-weather refreshment and simple food pairings.
