Established in 1975, Domaine Bernard Baudry is widely considered one of the most outstanding and traditional producers in the Chinon appellation of the Loire Valley. Originally starting with just two hectares, the estate has grown to roughly 32 hectares under the leadership of Bernard and his son, Matthieu. The domaine is certified organic and utilizes a "piecemeal" winemaking approach, where each of their five main Cabernet Franc cuvées is vinified separately to showcase specific terroirs—ranging from alluvial gravel and sand to limestone and clay. Known for their low-intervention practices, they rely on natural yeasts, age their wines in cement vats or old oak, and bottle mostly without filtration to preserve a pure, elegant, and silky expression of the fruit.
Hand-harvested from south-southwest facing slopes, this wine showcases a distinct terroir of hilltop clay and lower yellow tuffeau limestone. Following a two-week fermentation in cement or oak, the wine undergoes a two-stage maturation: twelve months in neutral oak barrels (2–5 years old) and the final nine months in unlined cement vats. Bottled without filtration two years after harvest, this Domaine Bernard Baudry cuvée represents a patient, traditional approach to Chinon Cabernet Franc.
