This “Lo-fi Alpine Blend” is sure to be your new crush. What might seem like an experimental style is actually a throw-back. Winemakers in the Alpine hills that straddle Italy and Austria would drink this fresh, crisp "spring wine" between seasons while waiting on their newest vintages to mature. Romeo is a modern take by one of our favorite importers, Odyssey Vini. The grapes come from high altitude vineyards and are co-fermented together after a short, single day cold maceration on the skins (thus the light color and freshness). The wine then ages in stainless steel for 8-12 months. This wine doesn't conform, and it was intended that way. It’s zippy, high acid, and lands somewhere between a red and rosé. It’s perfect with just a slight chill on it and the winemaker even recommends making a spritz with it, an alpine style amaro, and a splash of soda!
