Viña Bujanda is from brother and sister duo Carlos and Pilar Martínez-Bujanda Irribarria whose family has been making wine since 1889. The vineyards are in the Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa subregions of one of our favorite regions, Rioja! They use natural organic matter to fertilize the vineyards (like stems, skins and pruning remains) and each new generation of winemaker is focused on how to best utilize and care for each vineyard location. They want to capture the essence of each place and showcase that in each wine, producing wines that are fresh, versatile and innovative.
Bujanda Tinto is a Rioja Joven, which means "young" and refers to the fact that it sees no oak aging. This is very different from other Rioja wines that see heavy American oak aging and can be pretty oaky, bold and spicy.
