Intense violet in color with ripe aromas of blackberries and warm spice. Full-bodied and fruit-forward with plum, cherry and a hint of smoke. Smooth tannins and good structure create perfect balance and a powerful finish with notes of vanilla.
The supple tannins lend itself to pairings like barbecued brisket and thick-cut bacon, but equally as good matched with a full spread of Spanish tapas or stuffed peppers.
Chile’s long, narrow shape may look unassuming on a map, but within those 291,933 square miles sits several premium wine-growing regions that produce some of the most interesting wines in the world. There, the notoriously cranky Carmenère has the sun exposure and rich soil it needs to flourish. Though it’s most often used as a blending grape elsewhere, Carmenère has found its spotlight in Chile, showcasing its deep flavors and telltale flash of bitterness to dramatic effect. Root: 1 wines are certified sustainable through several agricultural production control boards, including Wines of Chile, and in accordance with the Clean Production Agreement (CPL). Their vineyards were the first to be certified 100% sustainable by Wines of Chile, and they’re the first winery in the nation to adopt carbon offset measures. By utilizing sustainable techniques to manage vine growth, provide proper irrigation, resist disease and pest infestation, and honor the unique attributes of each site, they’re guaranteeing not only the quality of their product but also the longevity and health of the land around them and the community that makes their vineyards possible.
