Black Slate is a collaboration between Eric Solomon, founder of US-based Importer European Cellars, and four estates in the Priorat region of Spain. Cellar Cecilio was founded in 1942 by Cecilio Vicent and in 1954 was the first producer/winery registered with the D.O. Priorat wine appellation. The winery is still family owned and operated. What makes Priorat wines so special? The Llicorella soil. Which consists mainly of reddish-black slate with small particles of mica quartz. This rocky soil is what gives the wine layers of slate aromas and superb minerality notes.
Fermented in concrete and French oak. This generous red features a round, soft texture that carries ripe black fruit flavors, laced with licorice, toast and loamy earth notes. Offers well-integrated tannins and gentle acidity. Pretty floral and cinnamon details emerge on the finish.
