Alberto Antonini and Attilio Pagli, the Malbec specialists behind Altos Las Hormigas, believe that each intervention on the wine means a step away from its origin. While no intervention at all is impossible, the winemakers try to do as little as possible in vinifying. Minimal extraction, neutral oak, natural yeast, very little sulfites are just a few items to mention, that guide us in what we do. They also seek to make wines that are naturally low in alcohol through hand-harvesting as early as possible in each soil type. The dedication to terroir-driven wines at Altos Las Hormigas has transformed not only their philosophy, but the evolution of their wines.
This mountain Malbec is a clear example of the fresh wines that the Uco Valley can pro- duce. It has a purple red color, with bluish hues. The nose shows a prominent graphite aroma at the beginning. As the wine opens, there are aromas thyme, blueberry, blueberry, cassis, red tea, blue flowers and cherry. A mineral, chalky sensation envelops the front of the mouth, giving way to vibrant acidity. This is a medium-structured Malbec is juicy, fresh. We love it with a teeny chill.
