A collaboration with Joel Gott, Shatter is an obsession with Grenache and terroir. Shatter is focused on old vine, dry farmed Grenache grown in schist soils in the arid and hot Valley of Maury in the Roussillon region of France. Nutrient-poor soil, strong winds and scorching heat stress the vines and cause shatter in the grape clusters, which helps produce naturally intense, concentrated wine.
The uniqueness of this earth drives the roots of the vines down, searching for water, while the rocks retain heat during the cool evenings, creating bold, well ripened fruit. A true study in terroir, well integrated tannins reveal bright cherry, dark plum and rich minerality.
