The Babylonstoren wine estate is situated in the fertile Drakenstein Valley between the Simonsberg and Du Toitskloof mountains in the Simonsberg-Paarl region of the Western Cape. It is one of the best-preserved Cape Dutch farms in the area, with a history dating back to 1692. Today, Babylonstoren operates not only as a working farm and cellar but also as a luxury hotel, spa, and renowned culinary destination. The estate spans over 200 hectares of vineyards and orchards, celebrated globally for its magnificent fruit and vegetable gardens that form the heart of their philosophy: showcasing fresh produce in all its forms, from the plate to the bottle.
The 2024 Babylonstoren Mourvèdre Rosé is a sophisticated, dry, and unwooded wine that serves as the official rosé of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. It presents a delicate, light salmon-pink color achieved through minimal skin contact (just two hours) before cool fermentation in stainless steel. On the nose, it offers enticing aromas of strawberries, raspberries, and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant, featuring crisp flavors of crushed pomegranate and watermelon balanced by a refreshing, citrusy acidity and a hint of creamy texture from brief aging on the lees.
