In January 2022, Erwan Buchwalter acquired Domaine de Lucey, heralding a new beginning for the vineyards and winery. Domaine de Lucey is a historical site in Savoie that became the first home of the now Savoie classic, Altesse. After mastering biodynamic farming and vinification at Valentin Zusslin in Alsace, Erwan sought a special terroir with rich biodiversity, finally landing on Domain de Lucey. Erwan adopted biodynamic principles immediately upon arrival such as infusions and fermented extracts of nettle, willow, chamomile, propolis, valerian, and more. Vinification still takes place in the ancient fortress without any additives. The goal is to produce longer-aging wines that can reveal their full potential over several years.
Average 30 yr old vines are hand-picked, 100% destemmed, and fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts. Maceration takes place in stainless steel tanks with 50% for 8 days and 50% for 3 weeks. 15% of the wine is aged in barrel while the rest stays in stainless.
Juicy red berries, dark cherry, and peppery spice rounded out with hints of alpine herbs. A fine mineral backbone and gentle tannins keep this medium bodied wine fresh and silky.
