The name Rajat Parr has become synonymous with excellent craft and impeccable taste. Parr’s journey has brought him around the globe, across the fine dining world, and eventually and perhaps most notably into the world of wine production. His partnerships and solo projects in Sandhi, Evening Land Vineyards, Domaine de la Cote, and Phelan Farm have resulted in some of the most respected wines in the domestic market. Since 2020 he has taken a bit of a step back from his old front-facing roles to focus on farming and developing his own systems of natural winemaking. In that time he also began making wines under the ‘Brij’ name: negociant wines from trusted vineyards that are a bit more accessible and no less impressive. The ‘Brij’ wines are an excellent example of the variety, possibilities, and skill that are coming out of this small, often overlooked region of California.
Fans of a chillable red will find plenty to love with the ‘Oso Rouge’. This blend of Grenache (80%) and Mourvedre (20%) is light bodied, crunchy and inviting. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruit character. The nose shows aromas of crushed raspberry and blueberry with a hint of laffy taffy sweetness. The palate continues with those purple-y fruit notes as well as some black pepper and baking spice flavors and present, but not aggressive tannin.
