Scott Schultz is the driving force behind Jolie-Laide. The name is meant to be a reflection of his winemaking style: Jolie-Laide translates to “Pretty-Ugly” in French. Schultz uses a totally natural process, letting the wines exist in their purest form. They’re a little weird, a little rough around the edges and wild – just as they should be. He keeps it all very small production and only works with the most trusted vineyards.

Mondeuse is a historic grape variety from the French Alps known for its vibrant personality. It carries some of the floral and spicy notes of Syrah, but with a brighter, cranberry-like freshness that makes it especially distinctive. Crushed by foot and naturally fermented all whole cluster and aged in neutral barrique. Inky in color with an electric fuchsia. Red currant, smoky white pepper, bay leaf, and floral violet aromatics. Tangy blackberry and cherry with an earthy minerality. The palate is lean and electric, with nervy acidity and fine tannins.
