Founded in 1985, family/woman owned and operated by Elisabetta Geppetti and her daughter Clara Gentili. Morellino di Scansano is a small sub-region within Maremma in Tuscany. For a long time there were no vineyards in the area, but cork oaks, wheat, and mediterranean woods. Maremma was not considered a territory with great viticultural potential and Morellino Di Scansano was making a pleasant wine which surely did not aspire to compare itself with great Italian denominations. However, everything changed at Le Pupille thanks to the enthusiasm and intuition of Elisabetta Geppetti, a young student at the time, who had foreseen great productive potential in the countryside she loved, where she spent her summer holidays in her family’s house. They tend Merlot, Cab Sauv, Syrah, and white varieties, whilst right outside the gates of Magliano we find a 20 hectare vineyard destined to the production of Morellino, the kingdom of Sangiovese as well as Ciliegioli, Alicante and Malvasia Nera. The name Morellino is a diminutive of the Italian word morello, which means "brown". Some believe the name is an affectionate nickname that translates to "little dark one". Others think it comes from the Morelli, a local horse breed with a rusty red-brown coat, or from the morello cherries that were once grown in the region.
Gorgeous, silky and elegant. Velvety flavors of cherry and raspberry linger on the palate, followed by a touch of vanilla and spice and finishing with a subtle earthiness.
