If you’re unfamiliar with Port, you are in for a treat. Perhaps Portugal’s most famous export, Port is an aged, fortified sweet wine that comes in a range of styles depending on ageing, the two most common being ruby and tawny. Kopke is the oldest continually operating Port house, established in 1781. Their line of Colheita Ports are made with fruit from a single harvest and aged in wood for as long as possible and no less than 7 years. Each vintage is bottled based on commission, meant to tell the unique story of that year.
This tawny port is deep red with a coppery colored rim. Aromas of dried fruits and baking spice lead to the palate and mingle with a rich nuttiness and caramel. Good structure and well-balanced acidity keep the wine sophisticated and delicate.
