Nanclares y Prieto is one of the most respected and influential producers in Rías Baixas, founded by Alberto Nanclares and later joined by Silvia Prieto. Located in the Val do Salnés, the coolest and most Atlantic-influenced subregion of Rías Baixas, the winery has become known for its meticulous farming, organic practices, and deeply terroir-driven wines. Long before sustainability became a trend, Nanclares was committed to organic viticulture, working by hand in small vineyard parcels while embracing biodiversity and minimal intervention.
The vineyards are planted on decomposed granite soils just a short distance from the Atlantic Ocean, where constant maritime breezes help preserve freshness and protect the vines. Albariño thrives in these conditions, developing vibrant acidity, aromatic complexity, and the signature saline character that has made the grape one of Spain’s most celebrated white varieties.
“O Bocoi Vello de Silvia,” which translates roughly to “Silvia’s Old Barrel,” is a special cuvée that highlights both the purity of Albariño and the subtle influence of extended aging in a large, older oak cask. Rather than adding overt oak flavors, the vessel contributes texture and depth while preserving the wine’s freshness and mineral character. The winemaking is intentionally restrained, allowing the vineyard and vintage to speak clearly.
The result is a more layered and contemplative expression of Albariño—one that balances energy with texture and precision with complexity. It beautifully captures the Atlantic soul of Galicia while showcasing why Nanclares y Prieto has become a benchmark producer for the region.
