Aldo Conterno is one of Piemonte’s most iconic estates, often regarded alongside the greatest traditional producers of Barolo. Founded by Aldo Conterno in the mid-20th century, the winery is now run by his sons, who continue the family’s legacy of precision, restraint, and deep respect for terroir. Their vineyards are located in the prestigious Bussia cru of Monforte d’Alba, an area known for producing powerful yet age-worthy expressions of Nebbiolo.
“Il Favot” is named after a historic parcel within Bussia and is crafted from younger vines that would otherwise contribute to Barolo. By declassifying the fruit into Langhe Nebbiolo, the Conterno family offers a wine that is more accessible in its youth, while still reflecting the pedigree of the estate. The winemaking remains traditional, with extended maceration and careful aging to build structure and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Nebbiolo is one of Italy’s most noble grape varieties, prized for its aromatic intensity, high acidity, and firm tannins. It is a grape that demands both patience and precision, often requiring years to fully evolve. Rose petals, red cherry, and raspberry with notes of tar, spice, and dried herbs. Medium-bodied with firm yet refined tannins and a long, structured finish.
