The Bea family has been residing in Montefalco, the beautiful hill town in Umbria, since the1500s. Azienda Agricola Paolo Bea is a classic Italian fattoria, producing wine, raising farm animals for trade and home consumption, while also cultivating olives, fruits, and vegetables. In the 1908's Giampiero Bea was learning the ropes alongside his father Paolo—a through-and-through farmer. Paolo produced shockingly expressive wines using a bare minimum of technology, and while these staunchly old-school wines didn't hit the mark with the modernization trends of the 1980s and 1990s, they did resonate deeply within the wine community and they continue to do so decades later. Giampiero has been long committed to healthy farming and his low-intervention methods has made him a pillar in the Italian natural wine community.
The Beas are masters of Sagrantino, a native Umbrian grape variety grown and vinified by just a few dozen winemakers, mostly in and around the town of Montefalco. "Rosso de Véo” is from the estate’s younger Sagrantino vines that are typically excluded from their other bottlings. The soil is clay and limestone infused with small pebbles from an ancient riverbed. This wine has a long cuvaison, then is aged one year in stainless steel tanks, two years in large oak barrels and another year in bottle before release. The wine is not filtered.
