Operating under the philosophy that winemaking should "move naturally towards balance," Osmote Wine is a low-intervention producer based in a former trucking garage in Ovid, New York, on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake. Winemaker Ben Riccardi focuses on "lake-shaped" wines that prioritize freshness and clarity over extraction, sourcing grapes from carefully selected local growers while developing his own 31-acre regenerative farm in Burdett.
For the 2023 Red Fox, the Tocai Friulano is sourced from the northeast shore of Seneca Lake near Geneva, where it thrives in a moderating microclimate that allows for slow ripening. The vineyard sites feature rich, gravelly loam soils formed as glacial outwash, contributing a distinct minerality that complements the aromatic intensity of the Traminette and the structural acidity of the Cayuga White.
