Les Athlètes du Vin is a negociant (meaning they source their grapes) project focused on wines from the Loire Valley. The idea came from a group of French winemakers who called themselves Vini Be Good who decided to work together to distribute their wines across France. The wines are made with grapes grown from members of Vini Be Good or purchased from friends and neighbors in the Loire Valley. Their labels are drawings made by French artist, illustrator and cartoonist Michel Tolmer who just so happens to be the unofficial lead artist of the French natural wine movement! Gamay is a super special grape (and our VIP for the holiday season) because it has high natural acidity paired with low tannin, meaning it pairs shockingly well with a super wide array of food. Like, it’s almost freaky how well it pairs with food. It’s pretty similar in flavor profile to Pinot Noir but you can still find it at a lower price point (who doesn’t love that). And seriously, we challenge you to find a food that this DOESN’T pair with.
