The late André Iché was one of the first winemakers in the Languedoc to break from the local co-op, purchase his own bottling line, and focus on quality above quantity. By the early 1970s though, he was one of the first vignerons in the area to embrace the notion of going from table wine to an AOC and was one of the pioneers of the Minervois AOC, which started in 1973. André loved the land he accumulated and worked his vines until his doctors told him to stop. Since 2008 the winery has been in the hands of André's daughter Marie-Pierre and winemaker Laurent Battle.
The Carignan vines average 40 years in age, with some of them being up over 100 years old. The fruit is sustainably farmed and harvested partly by hand and partly by machine. The Carignan remains in whole clusters and goes through a carbonic maceration in tank.
The ideal bistro wine. Dark, ruby-colored, the wine is wonderfully clean and pure, with brambly, wild raspberry, dark cherry, and earth. It’s not heavy, but it’s certainly not light either, fresh and bright, with juicy acidity and low tannin.
