Established in 2012 in San Luis Obispo California, Scar of the Sea focuses on small production with minimal intervention, little irrigation, and fermenting with native yeast. The operation cultivates across vineyards in multiple AVAs including Edna, Santa Maria, San Ynez and Cucamonga Valleys, as well as Aptos. All the wines produced see a minimal amount of sulfur before bottling, based on each wine’s natural pH to retain freshness and longevity.
Scar of the Sea is owned and operated by husband and wife team, Mikey & Gina Guigni. Scar of the Sea is Mikey’s project and Lady of the Sunshine Wines is overseen by his wife, Gina. All of their wines are terroir driven with a regenerative farming philosophy.
This old vine Zinfandel opens with vibrant aromas of crushed red berries, wild herbs, and earthy spice. On the palate, it is bright and energetic, showcasing fresh acidity and a mineral-driven structure. The 50% whole cluster fermentation adds complexity and subtle tannic grip, while aging in old French oak preserves the purity of the fruit and the distinctiveness of its terroir.
