"Gordo" is Patrick Mata's affectionate term for his father, José Mata. Across nearly four generations, Patrick's family has been involved in wine production in various Spanish regions, including Málaga, Montilla, Sanlucar, Rioja, and others. "Gordo" serves as a tribute to the Mata family's winemaking heritage Presently, after several decades, Patrick and Alberto Orte, operating under Vinos del Atlántico, are reviving their family's legacy. They are producing wines in various regions throughout the Iberian Peninsula, including the creation of this Monastrell, which beautifully encapsulates the richness and elegance of the southeastern Spanish terroir of Yecla.
After fermentation, the skins and stems are kept together in a post-fermentation extended maceration for seven days. Malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for three months in oak barrels that are two years old.
Notes of lead pencil shavings, blackberries, black raspberries and a hint of blueberries. Pure and vivid fruit. Full-bodied and opulent.
