Born into a family with a long history of wine production, internationally acclaimed oenologist João Portugal Ramos was awarded a degree in agronomy from El Instituto Superior de Agronomia (Higher Institute of Agronomy) in 1977. After his extensive education, he embarked on a career as an oenologist. As a consultant, he has played a significant role in the development of some of Portugal’s most notable wines. These successes have won him many awards and accolades throughout his career and brought him national and international acclaim as one of the main figures responsible for the development of Portuguese wines during the last 20 years.
This hand-crafted wine is a blend of native Alentejo grapes Trincadeira and Aragonez plus a touch of Syrah for added body. The fruit is sourced from 1,000 ft high schist and limestone vineyards surrounding the J Portugal Ramos Vila Santa winery. Ripe red fruit and dried herbs. It is spicy, soft and robust with complex tannins. Unoaked, it is fresh and fruity while maintaining a plush mouthfeel.
