Barbaresco is rightly known as the Queen of Italian wines: regal, elegant, and sumptuous. The Flori family have been growing grapes near Treiso, a mile east of Alba in the heart of the Langhe, for four generations. Only recently have they started bottling their own wines. The winery is certified under SQNPI, the National Quality System for Integrated Production, meaning that every stage of winemaking from vineyard to cellar meets or exceeds the established standards for sustainability, including maintaining biodiversity, promoting soil health, and minimizing pressure on aquifers.
While the new trend of Barbaresco winemakers is making riper, softer wines with lots of French oak, this Flori wine is a more classic Nebbiolo style, full of restraint and elegance. These Barbaresco vines were planted between 1950 and 1970, and grow on a mix of marl and sand. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for a year in large neutral Slavonian oak barrels, imparting some complexity without overwhelming the nuances of this noble Nebbiolo.
Classic rose petal aromas and a vibrant ruby-red hue and a complex bouquet of cherry jam, floral notes, and herbal undertones. With its full-bodied structure, fine tannins, and lively acidity, it showcases the elegance and depth of Piedmont’s signature grape, aged to perfection in Slavonian oak barrels.
