Northwest of Piemonte, you begin your ascent into the Alpine, bilingual, French-Italian region of Valle d'Aosta. Donnas is the first subregion along the Dora Baltea river and the name of a small, high-quality cooperative made up of 23ha and 20 members. Here in the southern tip of Valle d'Aosta, at around 300 meters and all from steep, terraced vineyards, Nebbiolo takes on a more alpine inspired personality, becoming a bit more peppery and floral, yet still with the depth that you'd expect from the variety.
Currants, tart cherries and blackberries, some savory spice notes, also licorice and pencil shavings, some crushed rose petals, very fine indeed. Fruit and spices and those fine young tannin and fresh acidity. If you love Nebbiolo, well you'll love this.
