We are big fans of Portrait coffee. Not only do they roast wonderful coffee, but we also appreciate how active the Portrait team is in the community. We connected with Portrait Coffee co-founder and CEO Aaron Fender over our shared affection for coffee and wine…two things we can’t live without.So, in honor of International Coffee Day, we asked him a couple of questions…


What’s your go-to wine is right now?

My favorite go-to wine right now is Vinho Tinto from Antonio Lopes Riberio. If you give it a slight chill, it has a cool, crispy, refreshing taste with a kind of acidity with some balanced raspberries and citrus fruit. My favorite part is the finish - it tricks you with an afterparty of surprising (but hinting) minerality). So good!!

What are some of the similarities between wine and coffee? 

The connection between wine and coffee is truly special! From uncovering shared attributes like sweetness, acidity, mouthfeel, balance, and flavor, to delving deeper into the similar conditions required for nurturing coffee trees and grapevines, the parallels are endless. Climate, topography, and geography all play pivotal roles in shaping the character of each product. Personally, I really enjoy tasting various wines, as it offers a valuable learning experience that helps refine my palate and deepen my understanding of the interconnectedness between taste and aroma.
